Aceh evening: book introduction and photo exhibition "Aceh on the Move"

Launching of the Dutch translation of the book “Alon Buluek” (‘The Terrible Wave’), written by Ayu Jufridar about his experiences with the tsunami in Aceh. The book won second prize in a writing competition organized by Radio Nederland Wereldomroep (Radio Netherlands World Service).

During this special Aceh evening, a photo exhibition about Aceh will also be opened. This exhibition was commissioned by the Netherlands government in order to provide a picture of the reconstruction process in post-tsunami Aceh. Besides paying attention to the physical developments the exhibition also tells personal stories of the people involved. The exhibition was put together by the Dutch journalist Hilde Janssen and the Indonesian photographer Iqbal Mohamad. They followed the progress of three projects partly financed by the Netherlands: the reconstruction of the Malahayati port, a participatory housing project in Lambung in Banda Aceh and a tsunami waste processing project in Meulaboh.

The evening will include performances of Aceh songs and dances.,
