The documentary Women Chit Chat by the Egyptian filmmaker Hala Galal, examines the Egyptian women’s rights movement over the past years, interviewing some of the leading Egyptian proponents for women’s rights. The film is in Arabic with English subtitles. After the screening a discussion in Arabic will take place on the changing position of women in the past 30 years.
Other panel members are Dr. Mona Zulfikar, CEO Shalkany Law Firm; Dr. Hania Sholkamy, Professor at SRC AUC; Dr. Gaber Asfour, Director National Centre for Translation; and Ms Hanina Ajarai, Dutch writer and journalist.
Universality – the idea that human rights apply to all people, in all places, at all times – was the basic principle underlying the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The conviction that everyone is equal in terms of their rights and dignity is the driving force behind efforts to secure equal rights for men and women and to prevent cultural and religious traditions being used as a pretext for not respecting certain rights.
Every year on the occasion of the UN Human Rights Day the Dutch government presents in the Hague the Human Rights Defenders Tulip to an individual who has shown exceptional moral courage in defending human rights. This year the Iranian human rights activist Shadi Sadr received this award as a tribute to her courage and perseverance in protecting and promoting the rights of her fellow citizens. foreign ministry's website.
Human rights are also on the daily agenda of the European Union. If you are interested, please check the
