Welcome to the Royal Netherlands embassy in Abuja

Welcome to the website of the Netherlands Embassy in Abuja, the (new) capital of Nigeria. Since the closing of the Consulate General in Lagos in the summer 2004, this embassy became an all-round mission that covers all the work a delegation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands abroad has. The embassy does not only focus on Nigeria but also on the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS-permanent representative). As member of the African Union and leading countries within ECOWAS, a prominent position is taken for the role Nigeria plays within the regional politics of Africa.
Besides that a lot of the embassy’s time is spent on consular affairs, in which the supply of visa and support to compatriots, are the main activities. One of the daily tasks is giving political backing and investment support to Dutch companies and investors in Nigeria. By working closely with the European Commission attention can be given to development programs. Media and Cultural Affairs are arranged on an ad hoc base.

This website tries to give some answers on questions concerning the reason we are here and on technical questions e.g. application procedures for visas, passports, support to compatriots, information on economics, etc. As we realise a website can never be complete, we sure hope it lives up to your expectations. Comments and suggestions for improvement are always welcome!

Best regards,

The Embassy staff
